Flights are formed by using past tournament scores and reported handicaps for new players. Handicaps are calculated based on tournament adjusted scores using the USGA formula. Players who participated more than one year use the three best of their last four scores. Players who played one year use both scores.

Equitable Stroke Control
The USGA Handicap System takes into account that a player may have an exceptionally bad hole during a round. Equitable Stroke Control, or ESC, provides for a downward adjustment of the score so a player's Handicap Index is not changed too much. The following table is used to set the maximum score for posting purposes.
Handicapping Teams
To compensate for the handicap spread of our "A" players, teams will receive a handicap based on the "A" players handicap. Handicaps for Flights "B", "C" and "D" are not used in calculating team scores.

* Handicapping range varies each year based on the mix of registered golfers.
Combined Best Ball - 18 Holes
The "A" player receives 80 percent of handicap, rounded off to the nearest tenth. Example, with an 11 handicap the "A" player receives 9 strokes, on course handicapped holes, 1-9. (11 x 80% = 8.8 = 9 strokes) 8.8 is rounded off to the nearest hole number. Handicaps are not used for the "B - C & D" players.
9 Hole Scramble
In the 9 Hole Scramble the same method of handicapping is used as in the 18 hole scramble. Except, half of the 35 percent is used, 17.5 percent. Example, If a team shoots 34 and the "A" player handicap is 11, (11 x 17.5% = 1.925) subtract 1.9 from 34 for net score of 32.1. Using the decimal eliminates ties.
18 Hole Scramble
The handicap system used for the 18 Hole Scramble is taken from the National Football League Alumni Association Scramble format. The teams final score will be determined by multiplying the "A" Players handicap by 35 percent and subtracting that figure from the gross score. For instance, if a team shoots a 65 and the "A" players handicap is 11, (11 x 35%= 3.85) subtract 3.9 from 65 for a net score of 61.1.
